A large percentage of Americans simply do not understand the different legal systems throughout Europe and specifically in Italy. Saturday evening investigative journalist Peter Van Sant answered CBS Evening News anchorman, Jeff Glor’s question, “Most Americans think that when you go overseas the rules are the same as in our system.” “Absolutely not,” Van Sant replied, and “Italy is considered the poor man of Europe in terms of its judicial system.”
