Tennessee County Jurist Founded Memphis

There are numerous charming and historic courthouses in western Tennessee. Three county courthouses are a half day trip from either Memphis or Jackson, TN: The Fayette County Courthouse in Somerville, TN; the Hardeman County Courthouse in Bolivar, TN; and the Haywood County Courthouse in Brownsville, TN . These regional rural courthouses each have their own character, commemorating veterans from several wars.

The small city of Bolivar, TN has a population of just 5,556 and is the county seat for the County of Hardeman, Tennessee. Just 28 miles south and a little west of Jackson, TN, the city of Bolivar can be accessed by TN Route 18. From Memphis, the city of Bolivar is just 70 miles east and can be accessed by US 64 East.

Hardeman County Courthouse Statue in Bolivar, TN

Bolivar's quaint courthouse lawn includes a statue of a bust of Simon Bolivar. This memorial statue was given as a gift "From the government and the people of the Republic of Venezuela and the Partners of the Americas (Venezuela - Tennessee) to the city of Bolivar on the celebration of the bicentennial of the birth of the liberator 1783 - 1983." (engraving on the column of the statue).
