Who Is A Jurist Doctor

Since its return in 2005, Doctor Who has a tradition of having stories revolve around a famous historical figure. In 2005 we had Charles Dickens in “The Unquiet Dead”, in 2007 we had the titular Shakespeare in “The Shakespeare Code” and in 2008 we had Agatha Christie in “The Unicorn and the Wasp”.

That tradition is continued here with “Vincent and the Doctor”, a tale surrounding the tormented genius of Vincent Van Gogh, a figure who was troubled with mental illness throughout his existence and ultimately took his own life. Whether that tragic aspect will be explored remains to be seen but what of the episode itself? What can we as fans expect?

The excellent Tony Curran is plays the tormented artist. Curran has starred in programmes such as Medium and 24 before. One of his most interesting roles was in the Sean Connery film “The League of Extraordinary Gentleman”; however you could be forgiven for not recognizing him as he played the Invisible Man”!
